January planting day
We got our approval earlier this month to start planting under the Native Tree Area Scheme. Under this scheme we can plant up to an hectare without licensing and ecological studies. Everything goes through our local forester. We planted 380 trees over 1 weekend with an amazing group of volunteers consisting of old and new friends. As we have hares and deer on the property protecting the trees from these is important so part of the weekend was taken up by making tree guards. We used galvanised wired mesh for the guards for the Scot’s Pine and made guards out of redundant oyster bags which Tomás Hayes from Top Oyster in Cromane has so kindly donated.
