Acorn Quest - Students growing acorns

Acorn Quest with Kerry National Schools

We are looking to partner with 3rd class in National schools in Kerry in 25/26. We hope to grow the smartest native oak trees in the country. We’ll supply a biodegradable acorn pod for each student plus an acorn collected from an Kerry Oak forest. As you can see from our example above, the acorn grows roots down into the jam jar and a hardy stem with leaves up into the air - all while just sitting on your class window sill.

In spring time the students will plant their sapling into soil into individual containers and, unless the students take care of them, we will look after the saplings for 2 years until they are ready to be planted out. Your students will be in 5th class. The trees will have grown and so will the students !

The unique acorn pod was designed and created by our partners at Oakyworld. Each pod can be reused multiple times over multiple years. They hold a wide range of acorns and fit a wide range of jars.

By using the Acorn Pod, children can learn about the life cycle of trees and gain an appreciation for the environment. They can watch the acorn sprout, grow roots, and eventually turn into a beautiful oak tree. Through this process, they will develop an understanding of how living things grow and change over time, as well as the importance of caring for our natural world.

If you’d like to get your hands on an Acorn pod for yourself you can order one directly here.
